Gardening Department


And it shall assume the powers assigned to it according to Cabinet Resolution No. (101) for the year 2012 AD referred to, through the following sections:

First: The department of developing and improving fruit trees and nurseries, with the following powers: –
To propose implementation plans to develop nurseries, asset farms and mothers, and to develop and improve fruit production.
Setting the necessary programs to meet the country’s needs of fruit seeds and seedlings, especially of modern varieties and fruit fruits.
Follow up the implementation of fruit crop development programs and how to deal with and overcome problems and difficulties facing them.
Work to introduce and publish items and assets that are evaluated and approved in cooperation with the Department of Prevention and Agricultural Quarantine and the Agricultural Research Center.
Determine the seasons of marketing fruit crops, especially citrus fruits, according to the types, varieties and dates of ripening, and coordinate with other relevant bodies.
Cooperation with international centers, especially with Mediterranean countries, that specialize in the production of citrus seedlings – nuts – and apples free of viral diseases, in order to establish such centers in Libya.
Coordination with the Ministry of International Cooperation in the Ministry regarding international meetings, whether held locally or abroad in connection with the cultivation of fruit trees, especially citrus fruits
Submit periodic reports on the department’s work progress.
Second: The Vegetables Development and Improvement Department, with the following competencies:
Propose the necessary plans to produce the largest number of field crops (legumes – tuber – root – leafy vegetables – tomatoes – onions – garlic – cucurbit) to reach advanced stages of self-sufficiency of these products and develop scientific programs to increase and improve production from all irrigated and rainfed fields in cooperation with Seed evaluation and accreditation committee.
Contribute to setting plans and programs for field crop production projects in a manner that ensures good management and achievement of their goals, and participate in setting studies for the establishment of new projects and setting annual production targets.
Setting the necessary programs to meet the needs of the country for vegetable crops and seeds, and determining the technical specifications of vegetable seeds and contributing to how they are distributed to the regions according to their suitability, in cooperation with the Committee to evaluate and approve the seed varieties.
To propose the necessary programs to organize and develop the cultivation of vegetable crops under the covers with glass and plastic greenhouses, as well as setting technical conditions and controls for these products to ensure their safety and freedom from pesticide residues, as well as producing vegetable seedlings inside greenhouses, supervising and following them.
Determine the annual needs for improved seeds and set technical specifications for them, whether they are locally produced or imported in cooperation with the Committee for the Evaluation and Approval of Seed Varieties.
Contribute to setting the technical specifications for organizing and developing the industry and installation of plastic and glass greenhouses, supervising and following them, as well as supervising the processes for exporting vegetable crops in a manner that ensures their safety and compliance with international standards.
Determine the varieties and quantities of seed potatoes supplied from abroad, in a manner that does not exceed or less than the country’s needs, in cooperation with the National Center for Prevention and Agricultural Quarantine in relation to its freedom from diseases and pests.
Contribute to the establishment of seminars, training courses and specialized exhibitions.
Submit periodic reports on the department’s work progress.
Third: Ornamental Plants Development Department, with the following competencies:
Establishing executive programs to improve the level of production of ornamental plant nurseries in the private sector.
Working on introducing new varieties of plants whose flowers constitute good pastures for bees.
Working to protect local production from sustainable and seasonal ornamental plants and cut flowers.
Holding specific agricultural exhibitions in the field of producing ornamental plants and cut flowers in cooperation with the Department of Cooperation, Extension and Agricultural Information.
Submit periodic reports on the department’s work progress.
Fourth: The Department of Development and Improvement of Beekeeping, with the following competencies:
To suggest implementation plans for the development and improvement of beekeeping and its follow-up.
Overseeing the introduction and publication of bee breeds appropriate to local conditions.
To suggest the necessary legislations and scientific programs to protect bees and bees and their products.
Propose legislation to regulate the import of beekeeping equipment, tools and supplies
Determine the seasonal and annual needs of bee supplies, according to the locally used breeding methods.
Develop proposals for the regulation and improvement of bee pastures.
Setting plans and programs necessary to meet the needs of the country for honey products and its derivatives in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Establishing the necessary programs to encourage beekeeping farmers.
To suggest the necessary training programs to raise the efficiency of workers in this field.
Holding qualitative agricultural exhibitions in the field of bee honey production, with the participation of beekeeping societies and coordination and cooperation with the Department of Cooperation, Extension and Agricultural Information.
Participation in conferences, seminars, exhibitions and internal and external training courses related to this field in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Submit periodic reports on the department’s work progress.
The gardening department supervises:
